Insider's Guide: Savannah

One of my best friends and I decided to take a last-minute weekend girls’ trip before all of the hustle and bustle of the holidays begin. We decided it would be a such fun road trip and that since we love walking and exploring, that we would stay downtown in the historic district. Savannah is definitely a walking town with some historic steps, so we opted to leave the stilettos at home. Personally, I think we were both excited for all of the fall weather. Florida doesn’t give us this luxury, so we wanted to soak it all up! Savannah, you’ve got a peach of my heart!

EAT

  • The Olde Pink House: When every local in town recommends you stop by for the Fried Chicken and Mac-N-Cheese, you need to! The Olde Pink House is a historic landmark and previously served as the Governor’s Mansion. Reservations are recommended, and the food was perfection. If you have time for only one foodie stop, let it be this!

  • Vic’s on the River: The historic structure is slightly tilted, it’s not just your table but has wonderful southern charm and food with excellent views of the river

  • 700 Drayton at The Mansion on Forsyth Park: A beautiful and intimate spot with savory foods and exquisite art

  • The Paris Market: As someone who doesn’t fancy macarons, this market had the absolute best Bourbon Pecan Macarons. We came back the next day to take some home!

  • Leopold’s Ice Cream: The line was wrapped around the block every time we passed by but luckily our hotel carried minis to try in the lobby! We opted for Butter Pecan and Vanilla, and it was top notch.

  • Graffito: Scrumptious! We grabbed the Prosciutto & Pepperonata to take on the long drive home from Savannah. I’ve never had figs on a pizza but this was top notch for the taste buds and included fonduta di parmigiano, figs, peperonata, provolone, prosciutto, balsamic reduction, parmigiano, arugula, and goat cheese.

  • Places to stop by on our next trip. We either didn’t have time or they were closed for the weekend: The Grey, Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room, Pacci, and The Pirates House.

PLAY

  • Forsyth Park: Part of the park was closed off for a private event and felt like a mini Central Park with a man playing the bagpipe

  • Plant Riverside: We loved walking here at night. Something different every time we stopped by. From live musicians to acrobats, laid back and chill vibe.

  • Savannah Smiles Dueling Pianos: Such a laid back and fun environment and is completely audience driven. The pianists are epic!

  • SCAD: Great pieces of contemporary arts with works from international artists

  • Broughton Street: Great little boutiques for shopping, quick bites, and ethnic food

  • Forrest Gump Bench: While everyone has suggested visiting this iconic piece, it has been relocated to a museum and is no longer at Chippewa Square

  • Mercer Williams House: An infamous spot no doubt; however, we only walked by and didn’t have time to pop in.

  • Cathedral of St. John the Baptist: We drove past but didn’t have time to stop in. Next time!

STAY

  • Perry Lane Hotel: A sweet spot, elegant and warm boutique hotel with an attentive and generous staff. Where luxury meets southern hosptiality.

  • The Mansion on Forsyth Park: Located directly across the street from Forsyth Park with a cozy environment

  • JW Marriott: Every bit of this hotel is like walking through the coolest interactive museum with a lovely rooftop bar and located directly along the river with something for everyone.

  • Holiday Inn Express: Budget friendly and centrally located
